CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) INFORMATION

A note about CrescentCare and COVID-19

We’re currently testing ANYONE with any mix of the symptoms of COVID-19: fever, cough, sore throat, breathing troubles, even stomach symptoms are possibly associated with infection. Fever with cough or sore throat or shortness of breath are the classic symptoms—yet, we recognize there are other symptoms and don’t want to miss anyone. If you feel you may have COVID-19, we can test you and find out. 

Our testing is a walk-in testing site.  We are situated under the garage at our 1631 Elysian Fields location.  Bring your ID and insurance card (if you have insurance); you won’t be charged either way. We do testing with full personal protective equipment (to protect our staff) in several tents, which are climate controlled and cleaned regularly for your safety. Most results are returning within 48 hours, and you will receive a call back from one of our providers as soon as your test is resulted – even on the weekend.

If you have symptoms please walk-in – we are here for you. If you have questions, please call us at 504-821-2601.

We will be asking all who enter our facilities the following questions:

Do you have any of the following?
a) Fever   b) Shortness of Breath   c) Cough

• If the answer is YES to any of the above, CrescentCare is  requiring everyone with symptoms to wear a mask.  Please keep it on during your time at our facility for your safety and for the safety of others.
• If the answer is NO,  you may proceed upstairs or to check-in.

If you said YES to any of the above symptoms, you will be asked these additional questions:

Are your symptoms new (in the last 2 weeks)?

• If the answer is YES, would you like an urgent visit for this issue today? We will have to register you as a patient.

That’s been true for residents trying to figure out how to get care, and for medical professionals trying to provide it.

CrescentCare, the sexual health and HIV health clinic in New Orleans, has not only been ramping up it’s own testing capabilities, it’s figured out a creative way to get more tests. The clinic also serves a younger population — something that could be key in the wake of new numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing that 40 percent of hospitalized patients in the U.S. have been people between the ages of 20 and 54.

New Orleans Public Radio spoke with Dr. Jason Halperin, the HIV and infectious diseases clinical lead at CrescentCare, to learn how that clinic is responding to the pandemic.
