CrescentCare Documentary

CrescentCare is one of the 1,400 community heath centers nationwide which provide comprehensive, accessible and high-quality preventative and primary care services to millions of uninsured or underinsured Americans each year.  Like CrescentCare, all Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) fill a critical gap in our healthcare system while reaching some of the hardest to reach patient populations in urban and rural settings.

These critical safety net providers provide an invaluable alternative to expensive emergency room visits in a safe, trusted and affirming environment while saving tens of millions of dollars in costs that would otherwise be incurred by delayed or untreated medical care.

CrescentCare Artwork

During the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, artist J.B. Harter began a series of portraits of his acquaintances who had contracted HIV, a project he would eventually title AIDS Wall (1992-2001).  Today this powerful series is installed at CrescentCare’s Elysian Fields location. For CrescentCare’s new Canal Street facility, artist Sean Svetlick was commissioned to create a companion work that interprets AIDS Wall through his signature use of vintage LGBTQ imagery. Honoring Harter’s legacy, Svetlick’s work offers a contemporary reflection, paying tribute to the original subjects while infusing them with new life and a sense of resilience in a more hopeful world.
