CrescentCare named Equality Leader in HRC healthcare index

CrescentCare has received an evaluation of 100 and the designation of “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader” in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 15th anniversary edition of the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey of healthcare facilities on policies and practices dedicated to the equitable treatment and inclusion of their LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees.

This year, CrescentCare is the only organization in the state of Louisiana to receive this designation. We have participated in the HEI survey since 2005 and this is the second time that we have scored the full 100 points needed to achieve the Leader designation.

The HEI evaluates and scores healthcare facilities on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:

  • Foundational Policies and Training in LGBTQ+ Patient-Centered Care;
  • LGBTQ+ Patient Services and Support;
  • Employee Benefits and Policies; and,
  • Patient and Community Engagement.

In the category of Staff Training, CrescentCare staff completed and submitted nearly double the required education hours. For Employee Benefits, leadership worked tirelessly with our insurance provider to guarantee that medically necessary health services for transgender people, including gender transition-related treatment, were fully covered. Providing inclusive care is fundamental to CrescentCare’s mission and we’re committed to continuing to learn and grow with our community.
