Planned Giving

What will your legacy be? How would you like to be remembered? You can write your own story and have it end the way you wish, with the proper planning. Booker T. Washington once said, “If you want to lift yourself up, life up someone else.” A lasting donation to CrescentCare gives you the opportunity to lift up individuals and the entire New Orleans community by making a donation that is life-affirming. At CrescentCare, we are building a happier, healthier New Orleans!

Ways to Leave a Planned Gift to CrescentCare:

Future Gifts:

Bequest: A gift through your will or revocable trust that enables you to retain the asset during life and provide significant support when you no longer require the asset. You may choose a specific item(s), a percentage of an asset or a residual bequest. You may also make CrescentCare a contingent beneficiary in case the heirs are unable to receive the estate.

Retirement Plan Assets: In some cases, retirement assets can be the heaviest assets taxed in an estate. Naming CrescentCare as a beneficiary can avoid that taxation, enabling that asset to pass tax free to CrescentCare. You may also designate a percentage or as a contingent beneficiary.

Bank or Investment Account: Leaving financial resources through bank accounts and investment accounts can be the simplest and most inexpensive way to leave a legacy to CrescentCare. Contact your financial advisor to see how easy the process is to make CrescentCare beneficiary.

Gifts of Now:

Appreciated Securities: Most often in the form of common stock or mutual funds. Such a gift is a valuable way to benefit CrescentCare and for you to receive tax benefits based on the fair market value of the assets.

Charitable IRA Rollover: A giving opportunity for those over 70 ½ . Federal legislation allows you to make tax free distributions from your IRA directly to CrescentCare. The distribution is not included in your adjust gross income so there is no payment of additional tax on a qualified distribution.

Real Estate: Real estate may be deeded outright to CrescentCare or left by bequest. The irrevocable gift of property may provide an immediate tax deduction and avoid capital gains. There are many complexities. Be sure to work with CrescentCare and qualified advisors to ensure it is a suitable gift for you both.

Life insurance: Make a gift or buy a policy making CrescentCare the owner and beneficiary

Gifts that Pay:

Charitable Gift Annuity: An irrevocable gift of cash or securities where you receive a predictable fixed income for life. At termination, CrescentCare receives the residual value of the annuity. There are also potential tax benefits depending upon your situation.

Charity Remainder Trust: The remainder truest is irrevocable gift of assets into a charitable trust that provides a fixed (Annuity Trust) or variable (Unitrust) income for life or for a set term. At the trust’s termination, the trust assets become a generous gift to CrescentCare. There are also potential tax benefits.

Charitable Lead Trust: Income payments are distributed to CrescentCare for a set period of years, after which the assets are transferred back to the grantor or whomever the grantor has named as beneficiary. This provides generous financial support to CrescentCare now and removes the asset from the estate and passes an asset to heirs with little or no tax.
