Dr. Amara (She/Her) is an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology-certified psychiatrist who joined CrescentCare in 2023. She is a graduate of St. Matthews University School of Medicine in Grand Cayman Islands. After completing her residency at LSUHSC-Ochsner program in 2016, she worked at Ochsner Medical Center for 7 years. Her roles there included working with patients in the field of consultation-liaison psychiatry. In addition to being the medical director of the Behavioral Medical Unit and lead in the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation clinic, Dr. Amara was also heavily involved in academics. She won the Faculty Member of the Year award for the Adult Psychiatry Program at LSU-Ochsner in 2021, the Teaching Excellence Award in Psychiatry at the University of Queensland in 2019, and the Roger Hatchette Award of Excellence in Emergency Psychiatry in 2016. Her interests include providing care for medically complex patients with psychiatric needs, neurodegenerative illnesses, treatment-resistant depression, gender care, and community psychiatry.
